ARCHITECT SMP Architects (Design) SRK Architects (Project) DEVELOPERS BSI Construction, LLC AP Construction, Inc. VAPROSHIELD REPRESENTATIVE Peter Taylor Preserving & Protecting Structures Integrity (PPSI) Landsdowne, PA peter@ppsillc.com (215) 971-4456 PRODUCT(S) WRAPSHIELD® Black (MA-Mechanically Attached) Double Sided Tape Pre-formed Corners PROJECT DESCRIPTION Over 18,000 s/f of WRAPSHIELD® Black MA (Mechanically Attached) was used behind metal panel façade on the new Kensington CAPA High School in Philadelphia. This school is the first LEED Platinum school for the district. In order to achieve these objectives, SMP Architects engaged Preserving and Protecting Structures’ Integrity to provide a high-performance, cost-effective approach for the building enclosure that maximized energy-efficiency and provided a highly-durable, watertight envelope. The final constructed exterior wall assembly, which produced maximum energy conservation and mold growth inhibition, included a soy-based spray foam insulation within the interior stud cavity, VaproShield’s WRAPSHIELD® permeable (50 perms) air barrier system installed on to the exterior sheathing, 1” of continuous Roxul mineral wool insulation (over the WRAPSHIELD® to minimize thermal bridging), and horizontally-oriented corrugated metal panels which provided the final, industrial aesthetic in order to blend into the existing project site. Even though the installation of the WRAPSHIELD® air barrier system and the other components of the exterior wall assembly occurred through the fall, winter, and spring of one of the coldest and snowiest years on record, VaproShield’s durable materials and all-weather installation capabilities kept this project on time and on budget.
