Testing to determine high-rise attachment requirements for WallShield and WrapShield was conducted at an independent laboratory. As per the 2006 Building Code analysis of rupture (pull-through) performance data relative to wall cladding design pressure requirements for enclosed buildings was determined in accordance with ASCE 7-05.*
The rupture (pull-through) performance data is for #14 diameter screws with stress plates. WrapShield and WallShield were fastened through wall sheathing (gypsum-based wallboard) into steel studs spaced at 16”o.c. The analysis is based on a 1.4 to 1 margin of safety and relates to critical corner areas (Zone 4) and mid-wall areas (Zone 5).
In ASCE 7-05* Exposure Category B relates to urban/suburban or wooded areas. Exposure Category C relates to flat open country and water surfaces in hurricane prone regions. ASCE 7-05* assigns an Importance Factors of I to Category II Buildings (i.e. residential apartments, offices) and an Importance Factor of 1.15 to Category III or IV Buildings (i.e. schools, hospitals, power stations).
